A New Life

It has been a long time since I last posted anything…and there are a number of reasons why.  I have long said that I do not understand how, but whenever I really want something it always occurs. Of course this comes from the work I put into it, but also by random chance…or is it random chance. Now you’re wondering what has happened since the last time I posted here. Well let me tell you.

In October I flew to Germany and arrived on the 3rd of October.  A Holiday in Germany that is call Tag der Deutschen  (German Unity Day) which celebrates the day Germany once more was whole and as one.  Well little did I know that this day would also become a monumental day for me as well. On the 6th I was to fly to Frankfurt for my interview at Lufthansa, but before that it was time to have fun and see friends here in Hamburg. So that I did, and on one fateful night I went to visit a friend of mine, Nico. Here is where the beginning of a new life began with a simple conversation. I knew his mother as well from my time here in the Summer of 2010 and so she too was excited to see me. The little detail that is also important comes from a chat that Nico and I had sometime in 2010 or 2011 when he asked when I was coming back and I proceeded to explain that I needed to find work and then when I had that, that I would also need a place to live. What does this awesome friend of mine then proceed to do? Ask his mother that if I managed to get here if I could possibly live with them. Back to the fateful evening. So as I sat there chatting with his mom she brought up the topic of how Nico had asked her about me staying and how she said it was absolutely no problem at all. I cautiously then asked, if it would be a possibility for me to then stay and not fly back on the 8th. She said first to go to the Interview and then decide, but of course my mind was made up. Since then I have been in Germany.

Sadly I also did not get the job at Lufthansa, but I’m also grateful for this because I’m staying in the North where I have my network of very awesome and supporting friends. So, the next challenge. I have only 3 months in Germany on a tourist visa and so not only did they give me a place to live but Nico’s mom proceeded with help of Matthias (boyfriend for lack of better word) to figure out what I had to do to stay. Of course we needed to find a job or schooling for me to receive a visa. So we looked and looked and decided that I wanted to do an Ausbildung (kinda like an apprenticeship 3 years and you work in a certain field and go to school to learn it) and so I applied for one Ausbildung. We played a bold move with only applying for one because if it did not work and I did not get this spot then I would have to leave Germany. Luckily, it worked. I received the ausbildung position and therefore received a 3 year visa. My dream has blossomed before my eyes and spontaneously. I had been saying that I wanted to move to Germany in the Fall for a long time…and the suddenly it happened. I cannot believe it and am grateful every single day that I wake up here. So now I am celebrating the start of a new year in my new life…my dream. So that’s basically whats going on….I know kinda rough and short, but I thought I should update everyone and tonight as the last hours of 2011 come round and the new year begins I felt it was the perfect time. I hope everyone has a wonderful New Year’s Eve and that your year was also successful and full of wonder moments. I also wish everyone the same for the new year. A new year full of wonderful moments and successes, and that you accomplish everything you set forth for yourself. I know like no other that when you want something, then you can do it. Surround yourself with those who support you and keep your eye on the goal and it will happen.

PS: I’ve also recently met someone who is pretty awesome and understands me like no one I’ve ever met…we’ll see what 2012 has to bring.

A New Day and Some More Pay

Well it’s been a few days since my first post here on this lovely new blog of mine and I figured I would add the next to the feed. Not much has been happening since I last blogged with the creation of this new blog, but hey it’s my blog so basically I can ramble on about randomness and someone is going to read it….not to sound arrogant…but I figure most that read this just really like me or just are really bored. So why not appease and give ya something to read.

It seems with my definite declaration of intent and goal of things have affected both restaurants and have slowed to a crawl. Definitely not the best of motivators, but I just attribute it to the world testing my dedication this time round. So, with that being said I have this to say:

I have started my job search at a slower pace than I normally would take it, with this kind of financial heavy goal, but I want to get some other personal work done and get some things squared away before I begin to work quite literally everyday. I believe this is the best game plan for the over all goal because it will allow me to then completely concentrate myself on the goal at hand of saving up what will be a very large sum of money.

I have also been trying to think of the more “out of the box” ways to also make some money to add to the Germany funds. One that popped into my head this evening is a fundraiser of sorts. Now unlike when I was trying to fund raise to become an exchange student I understand it will be even  more difficult now to exactly fund raise or hold a said fundraiser. I mean in this day and age who is seriously going to just give money to another adult trying to move to Germany…not many. So with this in mind I came up with a clever way! My idea is a fun type of fundraiser that not only is fun but also healthy and helping more than one cause. See to anyone who doesn’t know, I love Zumba.  Now the idea is to hold a Zumba fundraiser where you come out and have fun and zumba and instead of the fund going all to me I would do more of a 50/50 deal. My title for the event would be so tentatively “Zumba for a Dream” where 50% would go to of course funding my dream and sorts of getting my TESOL and moving to Germany, whilst the other 50% would go to a charity organization that helps children and people live out their dreams. The charity in mind would be the Make a Wish Foundation or one with the same goals in mind. This I think would be an awesome way to help others and also help fund my way to my own dream and have a lot of fun while doing it. Of course, this idea is only that and we’ll see where it goes and no worries I’ll keep ya posted…haha pun intended.

Well I guess that’s all I really have in my mind for today, but I think as I did in the last post I’ll leave ya with a nice song. How about something new and also from Coldplay?

Welcome to the Life

Well after consideration….quite literally just a few minutes after the idea popped into my head, I am onto a new blog. I really enjoy the ability to rant about my boring life and have random people read it. Although I don’t really know how many will read this but hey it’s a cool outlet. Now after that disclaimer I start my new blog.

Well to start my first blog was about my most influential experience in my life to date which has been a driving force in most of my decisions. That blog was about my time in Germany as an exchange student. Now I am an adult in a very expensive and crazy world where my dreams are bigger than ever and just as difficult to accomplish. Of course this means nothing to me because the challenge is duly noted and I accept. What is this dream and challenge you ask? Well let me open to door to The Life of Kurt and show you.

Ever since my time in Germany I have wanted to go back and no not just for vacation , although I have done this, but to stay and live there. I want nothing more than to live in the beautiful city of Hamburg in northern Germany. So far this feat has been attempted every year since returning and I foolishly have lost my sight due to petty distraction. I’m not proud of this fact, but I also do not regret it. Although it wasn’t how I would have liked to learn more about myself this is how it happened and now that I have this knowledge I am ready to grab the bull by the horns and take on the challenge and actually accomplish it. So how will I do this? How is it going to be possible for a 20 year old with no degree and only a year of tech under his belt to actually move to German and be able to support himself….good question…okay I’m kidding.

The Plan

Well my father says “get a full time job you’ll never manage to save the money you need with part time jobs,” but I disagree and I hear:

‘Do you accept this challenge?’

Why yes, I do.

I’m determined now to work only part time jobs to save adequate money to move to Germany. So part of the plan is to get a third part time job to supplement my income from my other two jobs. Then there is the popular question of  “Kurt what are you going to do in Germany?” Well for a long time my answer has been fickle because I didn’t really know. I did and still know I want to continue my education in Germany by means of an Ausbildung, which takes 3 years to gain working knowledge of a particular job field as well as the certification to work in this field. As for what I want to go to Germany with to assure I can find a job, well as of today I know this answer. TESOL or Teaching English as a Second or Other Language. With this certification I could teach English abroad and in any country including the beautiful lands of Germany where I so passionately want to move. 

So that’s the plan. As for now I have to find a way to pay to get the TESOL certification and work my butt off to save the money to move with financial comfort. Can I do this? Yes I can. How is this going to be? Well it isn’t going to be easy, but that’s what you’ll be reading about here…as well as any other random ramblings of the crazy mind of Moi.
